OSHA Clarifies Confined Spaces Regulation in Residential HVAC

Good news for TACCA contractor members!

A settlement has been reached with OSHA from a recent legal challenge to the agency's Confined Spaces in Construction regulation. The settlement clarifies that the new regulation has very limited application in residential HVAC.

The basis for the settlement is the new regulation was not only confusing, but also excessively burdensome on residential contractors. This settlement addresses many of our concerns and provides better clarity on how our industry is impacted by the rules and states that the vast majority of the rule's requirements only apply to permit-required confined spaces, and that these areas in a residential home will not typically trigger the confined spaces requirements.
